Hi! I'm Katie, owner, and photographer for Katie Carter By Design Photography. I was born and raised in Southern Indiana. After getting married and having our first baby, our little family of three moved to Colorado. We loved our time there, but seven years and three kids later, we decided it was time to make our way back home to the Louisville Kentucky area.
Growing up, I was always the friend with the camera. I had scrapbooks for documenting all of our important moments. That carried over when our first son was born. I wanted to be able to remember all of his precious details.
After working as a photographer and editor for several studios, I fell in love with newborn photography and branched out on my own.
I've found such a passion for capturing those sweet tiny details and the beautiful family moments as your family grows.
Since I started my journey, I have found myself in numerous workshops specifically for newborns and maternity as that's where my passion is. It is so important to make sure I am up to date on safety and keep those skills as fresh as possible. One thing I have learned is that all babies are different and I want to be prepared for all of them!
After watching each one of my four kids grow, I know how important it is to capture those special moments in life to share and treasure for years to come. Choosing the right photographer to create those memories for you is an important task. Things I Love...
My family!! I absolutely love my family! They are by far my favorite people! My husband is my best friend and my kids are my joy! I never imagined I would marry my high school crush and build such an amazing life together! I am so thankful!
Crafting of All Kinds!! If we sit down to watch a tv show or movie, there is a good chance I'll fall asleep if I'm not working on something. I can't bring my desktop to the couch, so I can often times be found with knitting needles in my hands. It's come in handy too as I make a lot of my own wraps, bonnets, and sleeper sets for my sessions. I also love detailed work like cake pop decorating (although I don't much like eating them) and drawing. Being able to make something from nothing with my hands makes my heart so happy!
Outlander, Reign, Veronica Mars, Revenge!! There are so many more. I love getting lost in a good mystery or historical show. Add a little whimsical and I'm hooked! I love getting lost in a good story and even more digging into the details of learning how it was made. I probably watch the behind-the-scenes as much as I do the regular episodes. When I'm up late editing, you can guarantee that I'm watching one of the above!
Coffee!! Once a day I allow myself to indulge in a perfect cup of coffee! Normally as soon as I get my daughter down for a nap, it's time for the afternoon caffeine to pick me up while I catch up on work emails and editing. Whether it is mocha, lavender, cherry, etc brings me so much joy!
Adventuring!! Our time in Colorado gave me such a longing to explore! We loved taking day trips around the state where we got to see so many breathtaking views. We get so much joy from adventuring to new locations and sharing it with our kids!
